Vinyl flooring has come a long way since the days of those unrealistic wood or stone effect options. As technology has advanced, so has the way vinyl is designed and produced.
While large sheets of vinyl are still popular today as a cost-effective and hardwearing choice, many people are opting for luxury vinyl tiles (LVT). Made from high-quality, durable vinyl, LVT comes in either a tile or board/plank format, depending on the type of design you’re going for.
There are many benefits associated with LVT. One of its main advantages is that it can look exactly like the real thing, for example a stone floor or a hardwood floor. Often it’s usually hard to tell unless your look very closely and feel it. For instance, naturally stone would be cold underfoot, however, LVT provides comfort underfoot at a room temperature – which is handy in winter!
You also get to control the installation and the overall appearance of an LVT floor by choosing the direction the plank or tile is laid, ensuring that it fits the room perfectly. Some brands, such as Karndean, even have a matching border that really helps complete the overall look.
Unlike a vinyl sheet, any damage to a tile or plank means that it can simply be removed and replaced – with no mess!
But what both options do offer is a great variety of styles for customers to choose from, no matter the décor or age of the home.
Vinyl and LVT suit most rooms, with many customers installing it in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms hallways and also playrooms, as these areas require a hardwearing floor which can cope with heavy traffic and any spillages.
A lot of customers expect LVT to be considerably more expensive than a sheet but depending on the brand, it can be a similar price and seen as a better overall investment.
Here at Bogans, we tend to advise customers to go for a vinyl sheet in a smaller room that doesn’t have a lot of surface area on display. We then recommend LVT for larger spaces where it can really stand out and be enjoyed.
