The kitchen is the heart of many homes. A place were families and friends congregate, catching up on life’s events over food and drink.
It is no surprise that this room, together with the living room, receives the most wear and tear. Paint can begin to chip from the cupboards, stains appear on worktops and the floor can appear dull.
The floor is the surface area most on show and when that begins to look tired it affects the rest of the room’s atmosphere and appearance.
Choosing the right flooring can be tricky as it needs to be durable, safe, easy to clean and most importantly, it must look great. Basically, your choice of flooring can make or break the space!
Floors aren’t regularly changed like the paint on your walls, so what you select needs to have longevity and the ability to adapt with new trends you might like to bring into your home later on.
Here are some examples of flooring we’d recommend for kitchens:
Laminate flooring has improved greatly over the years and there are many options that look just like real wood. Long gone are the poor artificial woodgrain appearances, many are now textured and feel like the real thing.
The main benefit laminate has over hardwood flooring is that the upkeep is usually minimal as it is more durable and able to resist scratches and moisture. However, repairing any breakages can be difficult and it would usually require you to replace the entire plank.
But one of the biggest advantages is that some ranges are fairly inexpensive (compared to real wood) and easy to fit by yourself.
Vinyl flooring comes in array of colours and designs and is durable enough to manage heavy foot traffic. It is usually comfortable under foot and reduces noise, which can be important for owners with kids or pets.
However, some cheaper options of vinyl can’t handle heavy loads and it can be damaged by sharp objects. In addition, colours can fade with exposure to too much direct sunlight.
Luxury Vinyl Planks and Tiles
Luxury vinyl tiles and planks are ideal if you’re looking to replicate real wood or stone. Available in a textured finish, it makes them an excellent choice for kitchens as it reduces the chance of the floor becoming too slippery if it gets wet.
Whilst a little more expensive, you certainly get what you pay for and a lot of customers find it hard to believe that it is made from vinyl!
